Midweek Message – 30 September 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear Campbell UMC Family & Friends –<\/span><\/p>\n

There is so much happening in our world.
\nThe geopolitical climate can leave us unsettled. The changing natural climate reminds us of the vulnerability of the creation we share. The weight of what we see and hear each day can make disengagement tempting. This, however, is precisely the moment when our faith calls us not to retreat, but to examine our hearts and spirits more deeply.
\nWhat kind of people are we becoming in the midst of all that is happening around us?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Another Future Is Possible
\n<\/span><\/u>Our faith invites us to bear witness to another possibility\u2014to live toward God\u2019s preferred future. It is a future in which peace is more powerful than violence, community is stronger than division, generosity overcomes scarcity, and all of creation has a future.\"\"<\/p>\n

After all, the Psalmist declares,
\n\u201cThe earth is the Lord\u2019s and all that is in it\u201d<\/em> (Psalm 24:1).<\/p>\n

That declaration changes how we understand
\nalmost everything. <\/em><\/p>\n

Entrusted, Not Entitled
\n<\/span><\/u>The earth is not ours. The church is not ours.
\nThe Gospel is not ours. Even the grace we have received was never intended to stop with us.
\nWe are recipients and stewards of gifts entrusted to us by God.<\/p>\n

This Sunday<\/a>, the Nineteenth Sunday After Pentecost and World Communion Sunday, I will preach a message titled \u201cWhat Will We Do With What We\u2019ve Been Given?\u201d<\/em> based on Matthew 21:33\u201346. Jesus tells of tenants entrusted with a vineyard who eventually begin behaving as though the vineyard belongs entirely to them.
\nBeneath this challenging parable is a question that reaches into every part of discipleship:
\nWhat will we do with what has been entrusted to us?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

World Communion Sunday offers a powerful response.<\/p>\n

A Table Larger Than Us
\n<\/span><\/u>This Sunday<\/a>, we will gather at a table that does not belong to Campbell UMC, The United Methodist Church, one nation, one culture, or one people. It is Christ\u2019s table. Around it, we remember that we belong to a body extending far beyond ourselves.
\nFaithful stewardship begins when we receive what God has given us with gratitude & ask how it might be used for the flourishing of more than ourselves. I believe that is also part of the witness our world needs from the Church right now\u2014not people who’ve disengaged from the world\u2019s pain, but people willing to embody another way of living within it.
\nWhat has God entrusted to us?<\/em><\/span>
\nWhat are we doing with it?<\/em><\/span>
\nWhat might become possible if we remember that it was never ours alone?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Making Room for Others<\/span><\/u>
\nThis Sunday also marks the beginning of our next New Member Cohort. If you have been discerning membership at Campbell UMC\u2014or know someone who has\u2014I invite you to join us following worship on October 4 for a 30\u201345 minute conversation.
\nThere is always room for another to become part of what God is building among us.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

As we enter a new month together, invite someone to join us<\/a> for Worship this Sunday, whether in person or online. Perhaps there is someone in your life who needs the reminder that another future is possible\u2014and that each of us has a part in helping bear witness to it. Whether you\u2019ve been part of this community for years, or you are just beginning to explore\u2014you belong here<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n
